Thompson Named 2025 Hockey Humanitarian Award Recipient

Graduate student Sarah Thompson was presented the 2025 Hockey Humanitarian Award by the Hockey Humanitarian Foundation during a ceremony on Friday night at the Stifel Theatre in St. Louis, Mo. at the Men's Frozen Four.
Thompson is the 30th honoree of the award. She becomes the first from St. Lawrence University to be honored and is the 12th female and the seventh ECAC Hockey student-athlete to receive this prestigious award. She was recognized during Friday night at NCAA Men's Frozen Four awards ceremonies, alongside the recipients of the Derek Hines Unsung Hero Award, the Mike Richter Award and the Hobey Baker Memorial Award.

The Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation is pleased to announce that Sarah Thompson (Orleans, Ontario), a graduate student at St. Lawrence University (Syracuse ‘24) is the recipient of this year’s Hockey Humanitarian Award. The Award was presented to Thompson during a ceremony at the Stifel Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri as part of the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four.

ST. LOUIS, MO. - Sarah Thompson, a St. Lawrence graduate forward, was announced as the 2025 Hockey Humanitarian Award Recipient during Friday's awards ceremonies at the NCAA Men's Frozen Four weekend.

Sarah Thompson created her non-profit Sticks Together to teach hockey all around the world but it soon blossomed into a community effort that still remains.
St. Lawrence forward Sarah Thompson was heartbroken when she found out Tigmans Village on the island of Palawan in the Philippines was experiencing massive flooding. Houses had been destroyed, streets were impassable, and food and water were unavailable to some. Thompson communicated with some of the residents she knew there and was able to raise $1000 in 24 hours to help them.

Sarah Thompson wanted to use her visibility as a Syracuse University women’s hockey player for something more than signing a name, image and likeness deal that allows NCAA student-athletes to make money.
“When COVID hit and the NIL stuff came out … everyone was talking about signing deals and making themselves a brand,” Thompson said. “For me, I just want to use my platform to be able to give back to something bigger than myself.”
